When you become a member, you are helping to maintain the aging building in which the Cinema is located, fund our innovative programming, and preserve this neighborhood institution.
Special message from the owners, Audrey Kramer and Alex Chernavsky:
We’ve been running the theater for almost a year now, and we’ve had a wonderful time screening movies, organizing events, and supporting animal rescues and other charities. And we’ve especially enjoyed getting to know all of you, our loyal customers.
Unfortunately, we’ve also come to the realization that the Cinema’s day-to-day operations will not generate enough income for us to keep the doors open indefinitely. We’ve incurred some major expenses, such as fixing all the broken seats. Our aging building ensures that these sorts of expenditures will continue into the future. We also anticipate new expenses in 2019, like state-mandated pay raises for our staff (who certainly deserve those raises!), and the purchase of pricey, high-tech equipment to assist our Deaf and hard of hearing patrons.
So we’re asking you, our customers, to help us maintain the Cinema Theater as a neighborhood gem for many years to come. We can’t do it without you!
Please consider buying a membership, or giving a membership as a gift to the movie-lover in your life.
Benefits of an annual membership:
- The main membership benefit is that you are providing funds to ensure that the Cinema remains open. As such, we try to find ways to provide something of value to our members that either costs us nothing (i.e. advance notice of upcoming events), or something that we can offer at a reasonable but still slightly profitable rate (for example, discounted tickets on Tuesdays).
- The second main benefit is that you are helping to build an active community around the Cinema
All annual memberships include:
- Special pricing on Tuesday nights, where members can buy tickets at legacy prices ($5 adults, $3 seniors/students)
- Membership card
- Cinema Theater car sticker
- Periodic members-only events
- Advance notice about upcoming special screenings, festivals, or other events, including the ability to purchase tickets ahead of the general public
- Discounted rental prices for holding special events, such as birthday parties (limited to Sat. or Sun. early afternoons). You can throw a party and screen the movie of your choice!
- Free admission and free small popcorn & drink for yourself and a guest for your birthday
- Free movie passes and concessions (different numbers for different membership levels)
